Kotor and Budva events
When coming to Montenegro, Kotor must be on your list. So, from Mart to November there are big cruise ships coming into the port of Kotor, that makes crowd during the day, especially in high season (second half of June, July and August). However, ships are leaving at the evening, so you would definitely enjoy having dinner in medieval old town of Kotor, between old and narrow streets. If you are there in second half of August, you can visit “Bokeska noc” event known for the boat defile, which are being decorated for days. The boats cruise along the Kotor harbor, in a defile, decorated with the lampions. At the same time when the decorated barges move one behind the other slowly, on Kotor squares we have party, music, dance and joyous atmosphere.
Another interesting event if you are coming with kids is Kotor Festival of Theatre for Children, that take place in July, and lasts for 12 days. Every night is different show, and plenty of animation for kids.
Kotor Festival of Theatre for Children
For those who want to avoid high season, coming in May, June and September is great choice. There is Festival of the underwater movie – for several years in Kotor during June, there is an introspection of the movies which were made to promote the richness of the sea aquatorium of Montenegro.
Animation for children – Gulliver’s laundry
I guess you won’t miss to visit Budva, as well. While Kotor is more for history, cultural and carnival events, Budva is more for nightlife and clubbing. Top Hill is one of the best discotheques on Balkan, opened from July to September. Popular names like Fedde Le Grand ,Ewa Shaw, Oliver Heldens and others performed here.
Sea Dance is an electronic and pop music festival on the Montenegro coast. Set in Budva in July, the festival is sibling to Serbia’s EXIT, and is held just after. Taking over Jaz Beach – widely regarded as one of Europe’s best – Sea Dance is the perfect afterparty for EXIT, laying on a fun-filled lineup of house and pop, set against the backdrop of beachside cocktails and sun-drenched relaxation.
After scooping Best Medium-Sized Festival in Europe after its debut in 2014, Sea Dance has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the region’s most popular summer music festivals. We got some information from Municipality of Budva, that Sea Dance festival 2018 is moving from Jaz beach to Buljarica beach, near Petrovac (also Budva Riviera), but final decision has not yet been made.
Although it’s more recognized as a party town, Budva has Theatre Festival also. In July and August, the city, the streets and the buildings in the Old Town become the venues of festive events such as poets’ meetings, performances, puppet shows and traditional dance. This is a major festival nationwide.
However, more and more tourists are coming out of season. For those who decide to spend a New Year in Montenegro, there is variety of events all among the coast. Budva,Kotor and Tivat Municipalities are doing their best every year to make fantastic show programs and concerts. Most of the hotels that were closed after the season are opened again for New Year and sold out very fast.
